FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Haven't had enough Victor Cruz this week yet? Here's a few extras from Atlanta Falcons camp today, where talk was again dominated by the Giants wideout and the damage he can do. Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud was asked to compare Cruz to another player in the league. "I would say, maybe a bigger Wes Welker?" DeCoud said. "They have the same kind of quickness, the ability to make guys miss and to just get open, his ability to be a slot receiver and you know, make plays for his quarterback, find open areas and make plays with his feet once he gets the ball in his hands." So, if you stop Cruz you stop the Giants? "I mean, just slowing it down, they have Hakeem Nicks who's also a great receiver, so we have to know where he is," DeCoud said. "If we can slow those two guys down and play solid against the run I think it will be a good day for us." Head coach Mike Smith was asked about the coverage skills of former Jet and current Falcon DE John Abraham and, although he delivered a compliment, re-thought things when matching him up against Cruz.“He will not be on Victor Cruz," Smith said, laughing. "If he is, it’s a mistake.”So who will be on Cruz? UGG Ultra Short Boots “Well, Victor is a big matchup issue because he lines up in their 11-personnel inside in the slot so it creates some issues," Smith said. "He’s going to be on your nickel corner the majority of the time and then in certain other packages, he can get lined up on a safety. So he’s having a heck of a year. The numbers are just unbelievable. It’s a great story; college free agent, 1,500 yards and Eli (Manning) has a lot of confidence in him.”And one more from Falcons safety William Moore, who was asked whether or not Cruz changes the way a defensive back approaches someone in coverage. "It doesn't necessarily change, it comes down to fundamentals against guys like Victor Cruz," Moore said. "As you seen, he's had some explosive plays this year that have come down to tackling. He broke a couple of tackles and took the ball over 80-yards plus, you know you have to wrap him up because once he's gone, he's gone."Also, some props here to Moore who — unlike Roddy White — saw that Cruz has drawn his fair share of double coverage this year. "His speed, he's more of a quick, elusive guy especially on his routes. Watching film, you know, a lot of teams try to double-cover him and he still comes out on top," Moore said. "So it's going to be important this weekend to isolate him, not let him get started but if you have a quarterback like Eli Manning, he's going to get the ball to him somehow."
